DMX-512 System
DMX-512 is a digital communication protocol that controls lighting and effects equipment in entertainment and architectural applications. It's the most common DMX protocol and is used to:
Control the intensity, color, and movement of lighting fixtures
Manage up to 512 channels via a single data cable
Here are some details about DMX-512:
Serial communication
The DMX protocol sends a start-of-packet procedure, then a sequence of frames. The bits in the frame are sent 250,000 times a second.
Channels
A collection of datasets called channels are packaged into a bundle called a Universe. Each Universe has 512 unique channels.
Values
Each channel can have a value from 0 to 255.
DMX-512 was originally intended as a standardized method for controlling stage lighting dimmers.
